Costa Rica Day 4 - BUG ATTACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Moms and Dads! (and everyone else) Tonight the daily Blog is being brought to you by Olivia Hach and Justina Dudziak. We are thrilled (and so very very tired) to be able to write the blog tonight!

So today started off with a good ole wakeup at 7 AM (8 AM for you folks). Breakfast, as you probably know, is at 7:30, so we all stumbled out of bed and spent the thirty minutes getting ready for the day. We then walked to breakfast and had eggs, rice and beans, a waffle bowl, and awesome pineapple. After breakfast we walked back to the room and hung out there for around an hour. I (Justina) played solitaire for this hour. Olivia took a nap. We then grabbed our sacks of stuff and blundered to the classroom to start the Day of Science.

This began with our groups gathering together to plan a trial experiment. This was based around the question "Where is Escovopsis in the ant colony?" The planning for this alone took about an hour. We then carried out the experiment in the lab room. This involved taking different parts of an ant colony/fungus from the ants and putting it in petri dishes. Each group did this and it was about 45 minutes for each. After this the groups worked together to finish filling out a packet. (This is Justina now) After finishing the packet, I went back to my cabin for about half an hour with some other girls. In this time I played one round of solitaire before deciding to head back up to lunch. The moment we decided to leave the cabin it started downpouring outside. Let's just say it hasn't stopped since. Lunch consisted of Plantain Chips, Refried Beans, and a sort of chicken rice stir fry. After lunch we headed back to the cabin (in the pouring rain) and we chilled there for about two hours, doing exactly the same stuff we did at the past two breaks.

When the break was over, we headed back up to the classroom (at around 2) and got situated for the rest of the science day. First, we came up with our official experiments for the trip, which you will definitely hear plenty about later so I'll spare you those details. After that, we took a coffee break, which consisted of coffee (duh) and a delicious banana bread. We then got back to work and started creating presentations to communicate our experiments to our peers. It was around this time when It happened. The bugs. So many. The rain stopped, and there they were. Millions upon millions of termites. Kings and Queens, looking to start new colonies. Apparently this only happens a few times a year, so aren't we just so lucky to have been here at this time. Olivia would like to mention that they tasted great when they flew into her soup at dinner. (I joke). This lasted for hours, and only ended after dinner.

After dinner, we gathered once again in the classroom, where each group presented their experiment plans. This took so long, started at 7 and ended at 9. Which brings Olivia and I to this conclusion. We are so very tired, and we are soon going to bed because boy do we ever have a long day tomorrow. So goodnight, we love you guys. Peace out Homies -Olivia.

P.S. Love you Mom, Dad, and Aunt Barb -Olivia

P.P.S Love you Mom, Dad, and Katrina, (and the rest of you)
